Watertown, WI Farmhouse Kitchen Remodel
Kowalske Kitchen & Bath was hired as the kitchen remodeler of this Wisconsin farmhouse built in the 1860s. They wanted a kitchen makeover to bring the space back to life. The materials were deteriorating and it lacked functionality. We gave them a fresh new kitchen that respected the era of the home, while adding storage and counter space that the family desperately needed.

Historic Home
While some projects are straightforward, an old farmhouse remodel has its challenges. The biggest obstacle of this project was the sloping floors from a foundation that shifted over time. We needed to reinforce and level the floor prior to updating the kitchen. We preserved the original timber frame construction by using sheep wool insulation and special drywall to preserve the timber frame.
The design works with the historic charm of this Wisconsin farmhouse. The kitchen features two-toned cabinets. Oak cabinets are paired with white uppers, a vintage tile backsplash, a farmhouse sink, and sage green trim and doors. New hardwood floors keep the space feeling authentic. We left the exposed beams to celebrate the unique style of the home.
Homeowner Review
“It’s been about a year since Kowalske finished our kitchen and bathroom remodels. I can’t say enough good things about the whole experience! Our kitchen space really needed to be “reinvented” and we had started working with “the other guys” but they really struggled to give us ideas that we liked.
I am so glad that I found… Kowalske. Not only was… [my designer] able to turn our kitchen into a masterpiece of cooking and durability, but they used all my specified materials and were able to expose our wood beam ceiling in our budget! They were even able to “level” the floor so that the drastic dips are not noticeable! She helped us pick out all the materials and we loved all of her suggestions. It took so much stress out of the project to trust her instincts! I still love every detail and it has stood up to a now 2 year old and 7 month old!”
