1980s Condo Makeover | Brookfield, WI
This Brookfield, WI condo had not been updated since it was built in the 1980s. The homeowners wanted to update the finishes and improve the layout.
The homeowners purchased the condo to live closer to their children and grandchildren. They wanted to update the style and functionality, with a transitional design style. This whole home remodel included the main living area, kitchen, master suite, loft, bedrooms and guest bathroom.
Condo Kitchen
The existing kitchen was difficult to navigate with the sink tucked into a dark corner. We removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room and moved the doorways. This allowed the dining room to be a comfortable extension of the kitchen and a better layout in the kitchen.
The Galley workstation sink gives the couple a perfect prep space in a kitchen with limited counter space. This elegant kitchen has custom cabinetry, a copper hood and handmade backsplash tile.
Living Room & Sunroom

The homeowner asked us to design the living room to be comfortable and inviting. We replaced the sliding doors between the sunroom and living room with interior windows instead. Adding shelves to the sides of the fireplace helps to balance the scale of the large room with a vaulted ceiling. The fireplace got a new hearth, surround and mantel.
Condo Bathroom

The master suite was reconfigured with a large walk-in shower. We removed a large whirlpool bathtub. The homeowners were entering their retirement years, so they wanted a walk-in curbless shower for aging in place.
To add more storage, the client asked for a single sink and more cabinetry. Drawers in the vanity add valuable storage space for toiletries and bath towels.
Other Updates
- Basement Staircase – We added a wood feature wall at the top of the stairs to add visual interest and warmth. This statement wall catches the eye and invites you to go down to the basement.
- Powder Bath Refresh – The powder bath has a new pedestal sink and open shelving over the toilet.
- Guest Bathroom – The upstairs guest bathroom got a new vanity, shower and flooring. The secondary bathrooms are simple, to allocate budget to other areas.
- The entire home has new flooring, carpeting, doors, trim and lighting.
Homeowner Review
“We bought a condo that had “good bones” but the kitchen/bathroom layout/design was stuck in the 80’s. We knew we needed help & met with Kowalske to see what they could offer. We were blown away by the preliminary designs that [our designer] came up with & decided to contract with Kowalske. We weren’t disappointed one bit. Our project was due to start one week after the COVID restrictions started which concerned us. [Our Project Manager] & his team kept the project on track with excellent work. We couldn’t be happier & would not hesitate recommending Kowalske Kitchen & Bath to anyone. Great people & great work.”
