Small Galley Kitchen | Delafield, WI
This Delafield, WI galley kitchen was transformed with open shelving, a moody green wall color, a cozy bench, and a bookcase for the homeowners’ cookbook collection.
The Original Space
The homeowners needed better functionality in their small kitchen. It was outdated with an awkward peninsula and a passthrough to the sunroom. The goal was to add more countertop space and storage in this galley kitchen.
Galley Kitchen Highlights
- Open the Space – We opened the doorway into the dining room and made it wider to connect the spaces.
- Kitchen Pass Through – There was a pass through opening with a railing to the sunroom that made the space feel dated. We partially closed the opening with a bookcase and butcher block countertop.
- Moody Green Walls – We chose a bold, moody green wall color (Secret Garden SW-6181) to contrast the white cabinets.
- Cozy Nook – We added bench seating next to the shelves. This sunny corner in the kitchen is the perfect place to sit with a cup of coffee or glass of wine.
- Improved Cooking Area – We moved the refrigerator over for more counter space on both sides of the range. We also added an angled pantry cabinet for more storage.
- Microwave Drawer – We moved the microwave from above the range to an under counter drawer. This allowed us to add a statement hood above the range.
- Open Shelving – A galley kitchen can feel small and narrow. Open shelving above the subway tile backsplash makes the room feel open and spacious.
Galley Kitchen Design
The design of this galley kitchen is transitional and fits the style of their 1950s home. White shaker cabinets are paired with a subway tile backsplash, white quartz counters and a farmhouse sink. A bold green wall color, wood shelving and gold fixtures add contrast and warmth.
Homeowner Review
“Kowalske Kitchen & Bath did our kitchen remodel and we couldn’t be happier. From the selection showroom to the finished product they were on schedule and we had the entire kitchen remodeled in 5 weeks. All the employees from showroom to finish carpenters were on time, polite and did everything they promised and the craftsmanship is second to none.”
