Bathroom Remodel Elm Grove, WI
This primary bathroom remodel in Elm Grove, Wisconsin transformed an outdated, all-pink bathroom into a calm, transitional retreat the clients had always dreamed of. After raising their family in the home for many years, this retired couple was ready for a bathroom that felt fresh and functional – one with a spacious walk-in shower, a private water closet and smart storage throughout. The result is a beautifully appointed bathroom designed to grow with them, balancing everyday practicality with the quiet elegance of a space they’ll enjoy for years to come.
Client Goals
- Fresh, Modern Palette – The existing all-pink bathroom – pink tile, pink toilet and pink countertops – had run its course. The clients were ready for a calm, updated color scheme that felt timeless.
- Spacious Shower – The original shower was so narrow it was practically unusable. A generously sized walk-in shower was the top priority from the start.
- Private Water Closet – The clients wanted a dedicated, enclosed space for the commode – something the original layout simply didn’t offer.
- Smarter Storage – From towels to toiletries to everyday essentials, the new design needed to keep everything organized and out of sight.
Design Challenges & Creative Solutions
- Immovable Windows & Skylights – Large windows, doors and skylights were fixed elements that couldn’t be relocated. The new layout was carefully planned to work around these constraints while maintaining natural light throughout the space.
- Radiant Heat in Floors & Tub Deck – The biggest challenge of the project was designing around the existing radiant heat system. Every decision – from wall placement to the removal of the tub deck – required thoughtful coordination to preserve the heated floors the clients loved.
Design Highlights
- Spacious Walk-In Shower – The walk-in shower was designed with comfort and longevity in mind, featuring a built-in bench, handheld shower, and handrails so the space can comfortably serve the clients for years to come.
- Soaking Bathtub – A beautiful soaking tub brings a spa-like quality to the space, offering a relaxing retreat without overwhelming the room.
- Appliance Garages – Dedicated garages with built-in electrical outlets keep countertops clutter-free by hiding electric toothbrushes, a flosser, hairdryer, razor, and more.
- Calming Cabinet Color – Cabinetry in a warm dune finish creates a serene, grounding palette. The designer’s favorite detail: the soft green tile tucked behind the mirrors adds a subtle, organic touch that ties the whole space together.
- Quartz Countertops – Easy-to-clean quartz was chosen for practicality, and the veining in the stone was specifically selected to echo the natural movement in the porcelain tile floors.
- Personal Wallpaper Moment – The water closet is papered in a pattern inspired by a quilt the homeowner made for her daughter’s wedding – a deeply personal touch that makes the space uniquely theirs.
